If you are reading this post is either because you want to know what they are exactly or you want to make sure that you understood correctly.

Love Hotels are like normal hotels but they can offer rates for shorter stays, even for just 1 hour, and they have very interesting features or amenities.

They are extremely popular here mainly because most families live with not only their kids but other members and this makes finding some alone time pretty much impossible. These hotels are focused on the idea that people are looking for a place to have some intimate time in a very private and reserved place. Everything is designed so that you rarely meet other people coming in or out. So if your stay is licit or illicit, nobody will see you or judge you.

Some hotels have maxi screens where you choose your room and you collect the receipt so there is no contact with the concierge, unless of course you need help. Some others, will have a front desk that will quickly provide you with the key (if one is needed) and the receipt with the time stamp.

Even though the hotels are focused on Love and the making of it, you can go by yourself or with a group of friends.

Some hotel offer very luxurious finishes and amenities like: a massage chair, the jacuzzi, steam room, a pool etc. all within the comfort of your private space. Still depending on the hotel, you will find a wide array of beauty products: shampoo and conditioner from popular brands like Shiseido or Pola, hair toners, face masks, toothbrush, toothpaste, hair bands, disposable hair brushes, flat and curl irons, hair dryer and last but not least sanitary pads and condoms of course.

Let's not forget a big flat screen tv with lots of different channels (x-rated and non) and Karaoke of course!

So if you are alone and want to unwind or you have a group of friends and need a nice place where you can order some food, have a drink, talk, sing and relax you might even find some group discounts.

I almost forgot... most rooms have complementary coffee and tea and sometimes you can find a mini-fridge and a mini vending machine where you can buy water, beer or vibrators.

When looking on a website or directly at the hotel, you will normally find two type of options that usually are called 'Free time' or 'Rest time".

Free time is the rate for a specific amount of hours within a predefined time slot. Those two parameters change for every hotel, unless they belong to the same chain.

Rest time give you more freedom on how long you want to stay but be careful cause some hotels, after a certain hour, will charge you as if you booked the room for the night.

So please be mindful that every hotel has its own terms.

Naturally the type of room has a big influence on how expensive your adventure will be.

You can find a wide range of options from very simple rooms to extremely intriguing ones with private pools and slide. If you have the chance to browse a little you will find some really crazy looking rooms but so far I haven't had the pleasure to be in one of these.

This is a good link to visit for some really interesting rooms across Japan:

You are probably thinking, wow so many options how am I supposed to choose?

The hotel will decide for you, let me explain. As I mentioned before, these hotels are really popular and because it's not possible to reserve a room for a short stay, you will have to see on the spot what is available to you.

The first time we went, for example, was a Saturday afternoon (quite literally after-noon) and we thought that we could pick the room that we previously saw and liked on the website. We thought "we might be the only one".... oh dear, we were in for a surprise! Only 3 rooms left out of 58!

The hotel is really nice so in the end our room was big, spacious and we had an amazing time anyway. So please be prepared to this possibility and have a plan B so you won't be disappointed and spoil the fun.

I hope you've found the information here useful, I will get into more details when I'll post about the different hotels I have been so far.

Love,

Pony Grey
